Project: Intern in Forest Restoration with Intelligent Reforestation



Place of the internship  
Water Health, Panama; Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca; Interns will also spend time in Panama City and depending on accommodation options, will travel daily to Agua Salud or weekly to the Comarca.

Summary and objectives of the project
Tropical forests provide a host of benefits to local communities, people living in remote areas but connected by virtue of being within watersheds, and around the world. Agua Salud is advancing our understanding of the ecosystem services provided by forests in seasonally humid climates. Smart Reforestation studies and develops strategies to restore the diverse set of environmental and social values ​​that are lost through deforestation. STRI scientists and their colleagues have studied the reforestation of forests in Panama for more than 20 years. Recent studies in Smart Reforestation have expanded in scope and breadth, working at larger spatial scales and with individuals, families, and communities to improve their livelihoods and well-being.



Planned Activities:

 

1.- Give talks and talks to raise awareness about the consequences of deforestation and felling of trees.

 

2.- Plan the collection of resources to pay for projects such as the purchase of materials.

 

3.-Visit the selected places to carry out the protection and reforestation.

 

4.-Distribute areas and different responsibilities to the interns.

 

5.- Finally, carry out reforestation, planting new trees in different areas.



Lodging will be at the hotel Miraflores, in the over time, during the Kibre schedule, the interns will be able to tour the area as tourists.
